Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy

I thoroughly enjoyed Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy. The world that she creates is fantastical, but she seduces us to enter it through a rather normal looking door. I was genuinely surprised at some of the twists and turns and the universe gets larger with each book. Her language is rich but the pacing is excellent.

I hate to reveal too much as the surprises are what make half the fun. But the launch point is a girl with blue hair going to an art school in Prague.

Winged creatures. A black market in teeth. Wishes. Interspecies romance. War. The nature of reality. The scope of the storytelling is spectacular, but the relationships are intimate and engaging.

Universal has bought the rights to make the films – of course there is a long road to see if it actually happens, and whether they do it justice. But the storytelling is incredibly cinematic.

Well worth a visit.
