Paul Manchester's Illustration Work

Here are samples of various projects I have done for various clients. The best storytelling is rooted in character, and I try to design characters who visually reflect their eccentricities. My portfolio is pretty extensive at this point... this is just a brief sampling. If there is something specific you are looking for please drop me a line. I can work in a lot of styles.

Who Killed Lady HootWhoot?

or "Hoot!" by Dan Rann ... A very funny "whodunit" mystery involving a group of elderly birdwatchers

This is the dear Lady Hootwhoot... and now here are the suspects...

The suspects are each shown with their murder weapon.

A counting book sample.

I wrote & illustrated two comic books for a wonderful Celtic band called the Wicked Tinkers... here's a sample... (wickedtinkers.com)

This is a poster graphic I created for Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for American Musical Theater...

The following are from EDITH OPAL'S STORY... The Screen Actor's Guild has a wonderful program called BOOKPALS, in which actors adopt a classroom once a week to read to kids and get them excited about reading. It has touched the lives of a great many kids in a very meaningful way. The more kids learn to love to read, the more options they will see around them as they make choices for their lives. I became acquainted with BOOKPALS when the Executive Director of the Foundation, Marcia Smith, and the National Director, Ellen Nathan, brought me in to design a logo for them (which is in the Graphics section). They were very encouraging with my writing and art and asked me to create a story for their Christmas party... and that is how EDITH OPAL'S STORY was born. It is fundamentally inspired by the work these two ladies do, and the work BOOKPALS does. I've told it many times with giant illustrations at libraries... well anywhere and everywhere to good response (sometimes dressing up as Auntie Prudence (see the "now playing" section for a pic).

OLIVER THE IMPOSSIBLE BOY was written by Rex Wilder for Pallotta Teamworks... this is a sampling of the art I created for it.

Here are a few older illustrations from Hy Pyke's MISTLETOE- THE HORSE THAT SAVED SANTA ...

Vinny was supposed to be reflective of Adam Sandler... and Rocko- the Rock (of course).
